Nickel is a hard, malleable, ferromagnetic metal that is highly polished and resistant to corrosion. Nickel is an iron loving element. The earth's core is mainly composed of iron and nickel. In the crust, the nickel content of iron magnesian rocks is higher than that of aluminosilicate rocks. For example, the nickel content of peridotite is 1000 times that of granite, and the nickel content of gabbro is 80 times that of granite.
